Ho la necessità che in automatico parta con XP e non con Ubuntu, cosa devo fare? E' possibile, vero?

Postami il file /boot/grub/menu.lst che te lo modifico al volo, altrimenti si rischia di fare casini... :P
aspetta che devi dirmi come e dove trovarlo :lol:
usare la pratica funzione cerca presente anche su ubuntu? :D

Al posto del file che c'è già (/boot/grub/menu.lst). :)
basta che fai
copi il testo che ti ha scritto Ryan e lo vai a sostituire interamente a quello che hai nel Gedit. Salvi e chiudi, al prossimo avvio avrai il tuo menu personalizzato.Codice:sudo gedit /boot/grub/menu.lst
Non so perché su Ubuntu non abbiano ancora messo una GUI per fare questa operazione, che è peraltro molto comune e che non fa altro che alimentare le dicerie sul "per usare linux bisogna saper usare la riga di comando ed è difficile"...

Il PC desktop parte in automatico con Ubuntu e i 2° dei due portatili con XP... non manca che un solo PC da convertire ma per quello sarà lunga (anche perchè mi erve per alcune applicazioni al volo ed Ubuntu ancora non lo conosco affatto bene... :blush: )
Alla fine la mia situazione è:
- PC di casa (512MB RAM): Ubuntu 8.04 (seconda partizione Windows XP HOME)
- Laptop Dell (2 GB RAM): Windows XP Professional
- Laptop Toshiba (1 GB RAM): XP HOME + Ubuntu 8.04

il secondo portatile (Dell) è stato acquistato SOLO perchè il primo (Toshiba) ha avuto un grave incidente... talmente grave che sembrava perso, è stato rimesso in vita dopo circa 9 mesi in cui ho studiato una soluzione piuttosto economica che mi ha permesso di recuperarlo (prima la scocca, poi la batteria). Purtroppo a giugno dello scorso anno non potevo attendere il periodo di riparazione dello stesso e fui costretto per lavoro a comprare un altro subito al volo :cry:
Senza dimenticare che se non me lo avesso rubato a Praga l'anno prima (Faq ed Effendi ricorderanno!) non mi sarei comprato manco quel Toshiba :D Cmq se riesco a trovarne uno buono usato e a racimolare tre lire mi prendo ANCHE l'EEE ASUS :P
approfitto per chiedervi una cosa...

ma dal boot manager che appare all'inizio le voci relative ad ubuntu aumentano sempre ed a volte cambiano le versioni!
cosa diamine vuol dire???
